Grenoble Institute Risk & Resilience (UGA) at the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in Bali, May 2022

This major event co-organized by UNDRR and the Government of Indonesia was held in the context of a global pandemic, a problem reflected in its theme: "From Risk to Resilience: Towards Sustainable Development for All in a World Transformed by Covid-19".
Its objective was to make a mid-term review of the Sendai Framework (2015-2030) and to present the Global Assessment Report on Disaster Risk Reduction (GAR2022) which, in the continuity of the last IPCC report, points again to the urgency and the great danger of the current situation and puts in perspective the convergence of the agendas of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), Adaptation to Climate Change (ACC) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
 

THE NEED TO ADOPT A MULTI-HAZARD, INCLUSIVE AND PARTICIPATORY APPROACH

What emerged from the numerous exchanges during the GP22 is the systemic nature of risks, the need to adopt a multi-hazard, inclusive and participatory approach requiring the involvement of all stakeholders from decision-makers to citizens, the scientific community and experts to be able to hope to achieve the objectives set within the framework of Sendaï. It was particularly discussed to continue to strengthen prevention, culture and information on risks, to associate science, technology, innovation and local knowledge, to develop solutions based on nature and to support the Build Back Better, to think location, gender and inclusiveness to move towards a more resilient society.

A RICH OPPORTUNITY FOR THE FRENCH DELEGATION TO MEET ITS COUNTERPARTS ON THE SUBJECT

Representatives of the French and Nepalese delegations at the GP22 (from left to right): Sarra Kasri (AFPCNT), Roland Nussbaum (AFPCNT), Gangalal Tuladhar, Nepal's National Council for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, Patrick Auffret (MEAE), Myriam Merad (AFPCNT/Lamsade), Philippe Garnier (AFPCNT/AE&CC-CRAterre) et Sushil Gyewali, Former CEO, National Reconstruction Authority.

The scientific community of the UGA risk was represented by Philippe Garnier architect and researcher at ENSA Grenoble (AE&CC-CRAterre) member of the GI2R project. He was present as a member of the Scientific Council of the AFPCNT (www.afpcn.org) which had sent a delegation of 4 people (Myriam Merad, Roland Nussbaum and Sarra Kasri) within a "tightened" French delegation (Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, URD and Predict Services).
GP22 allowed us to meet and discuss with various delegations and representatives of institutions, in particular, in the perspective of the GI2R project, the official delegation of Nepal. One of whose members will be present in Grenoble at the beginning of July to visit several laboratories and discuss future collaborations within the framework of the UGA Risk Institute.
