Summer school
From August 26, 2025 to August 28, 2025
Grenoble - Presqu'île
The 4th edition of the RISK summer school (thematic program of the Graduate School of Université Grenoble Alpes) on the subject of "From data to decision-making under conditions of uncertainty" will take place from Tuesday August 26th to Thursday August 28th, in GreEN-ER Building at Grenoble (France). The programme of this edition was built in collaboration with the Risk Institute (Université Grenoble Alpes) and Swansea University.
The summer school, open to all (scientists, students, partners...) and free of charge, will include multidisciplinary scientific seminars, round tables with invited scientists and stakeholders, and creative role-playing.
The summer school will be followed on 29th August 2025 by an advanced 1 day-workshop proposed by the Swansea University and the Risk Institute to PhD students and Post-doc Researchers.
Co-organization : Risk Institute@UGA, Graduate School@UGA, Swansea University
This programme is being consolidated and may be subjected to slight modifications in the coming weeks.

Topic: Advances in Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, and Applications in Computer Vision
Delivered by: Dr Simeng Qiu (Swansea University) & Prof Xianghua Xie (Swansea University) & additional teacher to be announced
Description:
Artificial Intelligence has become ubiquitous in our lives, with applications across domains such as computer vision, computer graphics, robotics, image understanding, medicine, and self-driving cars. In this short tutorial, you will gain fundamental understanding of Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), exploring their real-world applications and emerging trends. Basically, we will focus on how these technologies enable machines to interpret, process, and analyze visual data in real time. The relationship between Data science and Machine Learning, and how computer vision is driving the next generation of sensing technologies. Real-world use cases such as biological imaging, camera tracking, and video understanding will illustrate practical applications. In the end, we will discuss challenges related to data quality, bias, and integrity, and understand best practices in deploying ethical and robust computer vision solutions.
